Facility of the Month

MCA of Western Ontario - Woodstock Branch

"Since the beginning, the KidzPower program has developed into a large success at our YMCA."

In 2001 the YMCA of Western Ontario Woodstock Branch, added an 8 piece KidzPower circuit to their array of children’s exercise activities. Youth Fitness Solutions conducted a one-day, on site training session preparing the Woodstock staff to train and organize the KidzPower program within our facility.

Woodstock YMCA began the KidzPower program offering 4 classes a week with 8 children in each class ranging from ages 6-13 years. All classes were included with their membership. Soon, the classes were full and needed to expand. Two age groups were added having 6-8 years together and 9-13 years together. Parents loved the opportunity for their children to participate in a regular exercise class geared towards fitness and fun.

“Since the beginning, the KidzPower program has developed into a large success at our YMCA. A nutritional component was added to the program, allowing both parents and children to learn the basics of nutrition and how to best apply the basics to everyday life, along with adding our Y values,” says Angela Rita, Supervisor of Youth and Preschool programs.

On-site training

We offer opportunities for staff members to obtain face-to-face training on the use and instruction of the KidzPower and TeenPower equipment. The training is extremely useful in launching the programs within your facility. It thoroughly prepares staff members for the challenges faced in operating a successful program. For on-site training fees contact us.

Teaching tips

Plan ahead - each class needs to be planned by the teacher. By having lesson plans prepared in advance, should a teacher be sick and need a replacement, the substitute teacher can look at the lesson plans to see what is planned for the session.
